The Bambu Lab Engineering Plate is designed to offer good adhesion while printing, but there might be cases where the results are not as expected. Here are a few recommended steps for troubleshooting adhesion issues with the Bambu Lab Engineering Plate.
From time to time, we recommend cleaning the Bambu Lab Engineering Plate to ensure that the printing surface is free of debris, old glue sticks, and fingerprints. Natural oils that are present on your hands can find their way onto the printing surface, and this will impact the adhesion properties of the sheet.
We recommend cleaning the printing surface with warm water and regular soap. You can use a simple sponge and dishwashing soap, then wash it with water and dry it with a regular paper towel.
You can also use isopropyl alcohol for cleaning. The engineering plate should work just as well, but it might be a bit harder to clean the glue stick.
While most filament types have a correct temperature set in the Bambu Slicer, if you customize your profile, then we recommend double-checking the temperatures set for the heated bed. In some cases, you might also need to adjust the temperature based on the type of filament used and its properties.
Most of the time, you will be printing higher temperature filaments on the engineering plate, so the temperatures will be set between 80°C and 100°C depending on the material.
When printing with higher-temperature materials, part cooling is not as important as with regular filaments. As always, the cooling settings need to be changed based on the type of filament you are using.
For example, if you are printing ABS, a fan speed of about 30% to 40% is more than enough to help with solidifying the filament quicker without creating too much stress on the print to create delaminations.
Another tip for ensuring good adhesion with the Engineering Plate is to start the part cooling fan only after the first three layers have been printed.
For increased adhesion, you can also adjust the slicer settings for the first layer. The slicer profiles included in Bambu Studio are pre-configured with values that worked best during testing. But if you have issues, we recommend starting the print with a 0.5mm extrusion width and a 0.25mm layer height for best results. These settings will provide a good base for the rest of the print and will increase the chances of success.
