¶ Fault Description
When the printer is printing with AMS, if the printer detects that the filament cannot be fed properly (commonly known as "air printing"), the system will automatically:
- Cut and retract the filament back to AMS
- Pause the printing task and display an error prompt
Possible causes include:
- Nozzle clogging
- Filament stuck in the extruder
- Too much debris on the extruder gear
- Filament is too thin or damp, causing slippage with the extruder gear
Friendly Reminder:
After troubleshooting, clicking "Continue Printing" may result in defects such as missing layers on the printed part.
- If you can accept minor defects → you can continue printing
- If you require perfect printing results → it is recommended to cancel and restart printing

¶ Troubleshooting Measures
Users can adjust the order of each troubleshooting measure as appropriate.
¶ Step 1. Filament Quality Inspection
- Pull out the filament from the AMS slot where the problem occurred
- If the front end of the filament is worn or deformed, cut off this section of the filament
- Use a vernier caliper to measure the diameter of the filament at multiple points. The normal filament diameter is 1.75mm +/- 0.03mm. If the filament diameter is too small, replace the filament and try printing again.
- If the filament is severely damp due to long-term use, replace the filament or dry the filament, then try printing again.
After inserting the filament into AMS, click to continue printing. If the filament still cannot be extruded, proceed to Step 2 for inspection.
¶ Step 2. Hotend Clogging Inspection
- If printing fails after troubleshooting in Step 1, wait for the printer to pause the task.
- Manually press the cutter lever to cut the filament.
- Remove the hotend, and when the hotend is still at a high temperature, use needle-nose pliers to clamp the filament at the hotend inlet and pull out the residual material (be careful of high-temperature scalds; you can wear gloves for operation)
- After reinstalling the hotend, try to continue printing. If it still fails, you can refer to this Wiki (H2S Hotend Clog Cleaning) for hotend clogging inspection.
After the hotend is cleaned, reinstall it and perform an extrusion test. If the test fails, skip to Step 3.
¶ Step 3. Extruder Clogging Inspection
Refer to the wiki H2S Clogging Inspection, remove the nozzle and extruder front cover, and clean the extruder.
After the extruder is cleaned, reinstall it and perform an extrusion test. If extrusion is successful, the troubleshooting is completed.
